Are Throw Pillows For Throwing?

Decorative pillows are like makeup – the right lipstick and eye shadow can make you look like a super model whereas the wrong color or too much of it can make you look like a, zombie, or worse… However, clever use of them can greatly help to freshen up a room, and add softness into your decor. This is the cheapest and quickest way for a makeover.

Here are some tips on how to use decorative pillows in your home decor:

    • Do not clutter a couch with too many pillows of the same size. The wisdom is too many/much of anything may defeat the original purpose. Remember the purpose of throw pillows is to add some colors and style to your room and soften a room up. Too many pillows cluttering a couch can make it hard for your visitors to find space to sit on. It can also look too busy on your couch, defeating the idea of decorating.
    • Do not use over stuffed throw pillows. You don’t want to be repelled by them and they can be uncomfortable. The idea is using them to make your room look good as well as feel welcoming and comfortable.
    • Mix your pillows with various shapes and sizes. Make the setting interesting and comfortable. Using different patterns and sizesshaped throw pillows can accentuate that.
    • Pillows made with heavy fabrics should be used sparingly as the center of attention among others. If you use too many of them in one room, then you may find your room look stuffy.
    • Do mix and match your colors like reds with greens, blues with oranges, yellows with purples. Such combinations can make your setting vibrant and refreshing.
    • When layering, use different pillow sizes and shapes like placing a lumbar pillow in front or try a round shape which may make a great difference. Just don’t overdo it.
  • If you have a pillow that has a lot of character, feature it alone on a chair. Don’t mix it into a sofa with others.
